How Often Should You Clean Your Air Ducts?

So if you’re reading this, then you are obviously at least considering getting your air ducts cleaned. Go ahead and read on. If you’ve already had your air ducts cleaned before, then maybe you’re wondering if it’s time to do it again. Go ahead and read on. Your air ducts are the veins of your heating and cooling system in your home. When the air inside your ducts is dirty, then it stands to reason that the air inside your home will be dirty as well.

So how often doo you need to get your air ducts cleaned in order to keep the air you and your family are breathing, fresh and free of harmful substances? The answer depends on a lot of factors. In general terms, you should probably have your ducts cleaned at least every 3-5 years. However, if you live in a location where dust is more prevalent then you might consider getting your ducts cleaned more often.

In addition, if you have pets, or if anyone in your home suffers from allergies, then those are other reasons that might make you consider getting your air ducts cleaned more often. Another good time to get your air ducts cleaned is when you move into a new home, whether it’s newly built or just new to you. A lot of dust and debris build up when homes are built, which means your ducts are probably filthy. If you’re moving into a pre-owned home, then you probably have no idea when the ducts were cleaned last. That’s a good time to get them checked.

These are all good reasons to at least get your air ducts checked. If nothing else, stick with the every 3-5 year plan and in most cases you should be ok.
